Gone are the days when only a few students could pave their path to international universities. In recent years, there has been a significant rise in the number of Indian students travelling abroad for higher studies. As per a report released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the total expenditure on tuition and hostel fee by Indian students abroad has increased by 44% in the last few years. Moreover, it is estimated that nearly 4 lakh students will make their way to international universities in the coming 3 years.
While planning to study abroad, a number of things are taken into consideration, international travel insurance being one of those. It is to ensure that you stay trouble-free during your stint overseas if in case something unforeseen happens.
Given that the cost of healthcare overseas is quite expensive in comparison to that in India, makes it important for students travelling abroad for studies to get their medical expenses covered. Without travel insurance, one can end up spending over a week’s budget on just the consultation fees. A student travel insurance covers both the trip as well as the student’s health.
●Any individual between the age of 16 to 35 can apply for a student travel insurance
●A student should be enrolled for a course in a registered institution of higher learning and should be attending regular classes in a foreign country
●Each student can have only one insurance policy for the specified course period
●Cover includes loss of baggage, hospitalisation & accident among other incidental expenses
Comprehensive coverage facilities such as:
●Study Interruption
●Bail Bonds
●Sponsor Protection
●Two-way Flight Coverage for Family
●Medical expenses arising out of medical emergencies that occur during your stint overseas
●The untimely demise of insured, transport expenses for the mortal remains back home
●Accidental injury during the stay
●Expenses related to the emergency medical evacuation of the students to India
●Dental treatment and related expenses
●Compensation for a personal accident which causes injury or death
●Injury, death or disability caused while riding in a common carrier whilst abroad
●Loss of baggage, passport and related expenses incurred on replacement
●Such policies cover the return ticket fare for a family member visiting the student if hospitalized a week or more
●If the policy holder’s education is interrupted due to a medical emergency, the semester fee for that duration is reimbursed
●The bail amount is paid by the insurer if the student is arrested or detained whilst abroad
●In case the sponsor paying the insured student’s fee passes away due to an injury, the tuition fee is reimbursed
When planning to buy a student travel insurance, do compare different plans available. This will help you channelize your requirements and pick a plan that caters to your requirements. You can also make the policy you have chosen more comprehensive by taking required add-ons.
