1. Pulmonary Thromboembolism - It means the blockage of an artery in the lung by a clot or a tissue. The condition is covered for medical treatment on an inpatient care basis if it is diagnosed by a specialist through a V/Q scan, angiography or ECG with evidence of ventricular dysfunction.
2. Primary Pulmonary Hypertension - It is covered if diagnosed by a cardiologist with evidence of right ventricular enlargement and increased pulmonary pressure resulting in a permanent irreversible physical impairment. Note that if the condition is caused by occupational, environmental factors and substance abuse, no coverage is available.
3. Infective Endocarditis - Inflammation of the inner lining of the heart caused by an infectious organism detected by a blood culture test. The condition is covered if it results in at least 20% of heart valve incompetence or 30% of heart valve stenosis.
4. Heart Valve Replacement/Repair - Open heart surgery performed to repair or replace defective, abnormal or cardiac disease-affected heart valves. It is covered if the diagnosis is supported by ECG and surgery is recommended by a specialist doctor.
5. Surgery of Aorta - A minimally invasive surgery performed to repair or correct the narrowing or obstruction of the Aorta. It may include angioplasty.
6. Cardiomyopathy - Impaired function of the heart muscle causing permanent physical impairment which results in discomfort during physical activities as diagnosed by a cardiologist. If the condition is caused due to alcohol or drug abuse, no coverage is provided.
7. Surgery of Cardiac Arrhythmia - It is covered by this health mediclaim policy if the ablation procedure is found to be absolutely necessary as recommended by an electrophysiologist. The evaluation and the details of the procedure should be documented as evidence to receive the coverage.
8. Angioplasty - It is the process of percutaneous coronary intervention used to clear a minimum 50% blockage of one or more major coronary arteries. The treatment is covered if it is found absolutely necessary by a cardiologist and supported by a coronary angiogram (CAG).
9. Balloon Valvotomy - The process is required due to the damage of a heart valve. It is covered if recommended by a cardiologist and is supported by an ECG or other relevant tests.
10. Coronary Artery Bypass - Open heart surgery performed for the correction of one or more blocked arteries. Laser or keyhole surgeries for the same purpose are not covered.
11. Carotid Artery Surgery - Surgery performed to correct carotid artery stenosis of at least 50% as confirmed by an angiography.
12. Pericardectomy - Open heart surgery or keyhole technique required for the treatment of pericardial disease. Only certified surgical procedures are covered. Any procedure other than surgery is excluded.
13. Surgery to Place an Artificial Heart or Ventricle Assist Device - Open chest procedure to implant a ventricle assist device required due to heart dysfunction or heart failure.
14. Myocardial Infarction - It is the death of a portion of the heart muscle due to inadequate blood supply. The treatment is covered if the diagnosis is confirmed by symptoms, new ECG changes and a rise in biochemical markers.
15. Implantation of Pacemaker - Insertion of the pacemaker is required to correct serious cardiac arrhythmia, which cannot be treated by any other method.
16. Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator - It is required to correct sudden loss of heart function resulting in unconsciousness. It is covered if recommended by a specialist as absolutely necessary.
